Its important to take care of our skin before the visible signs of aging are seen, since it is the largest organ in our body and serves many purposes.
Our skin ages from two factors, internal and external. Internal aging is determined by our health, genetics and how we care for our skin. External factors that age our skin are the sun and environmental toxins.
Unprotected exposure to the sun over the years can lead to premature aging of the skin, resulting in deep wrinkles, age spots, and leathery skin.
Our skin reaches maturity in our mid 20’s……. It is hear that the aging process begins, within the layers of skin your collagen production slows, The elastin in our skin starts to loose its spring, cell regeneration slows, dead skin cells do not shed as quickly, blood flow to the skin is reduced, and lower glandular activity can occur. It’s hard to believe at such a young age all this is happening to our skin. However, the results of this aging will not be visible for decades to come. When this time comes some of the signs are:
- Fine wrinkles
- Reduced ability to retain moisture
- Thin and transparent skin
- Decreased firmness on the neck and hands caused by the loss of underlying fat
- Sagging skin
- Dry and itchy skin
- Inability to sweat sufficiently to cool the skin
- Age spots
- Easily damaged skin
By taking care of our skin at a early age you can help deminish the efects of aging. As mentioned before the skin regenerats itself, and by giving it the nutrients it needs for this the skin can feel and apear younger and healthyer longer.
